Thomas is a leadership speaker, author and an authority on preventing student alcohol-related violence. He is a graduate of St. John Fisher College and holds an advanced studies certificate in Executive Leadership: Preparing for an Uncertain Future, from Cornell University. With over 30 years of accomplishments in leadership, he is the only expert of his type to appear 8 consecutive times in Who's Who in America.
His first major leadership experience came in 1976, when he appeared on the cover of Soviet Life Magazine. Representing the National Council of YMCAs at an American-Soviet conference, he learned early in his career that the principles of leadership are universal. After his eye-opening visit to the Soviet Union, he returned to the United States with an even greater appreciation for American democracy—the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—the very embodiment of entrepreneurship.
After 9 years as an executive director in the national YMCA system, Tom began a sales career in the financial consulting field. He earned the designation of Certified Financial Planner and in 1985 he was honored by receiving the prestigious Outstanding Financial Planner of the Year Award, at IDS/American Express.
He became the division manager for Waddell & Reed, Rochester, New York, in 1995. During his tenure, he recruited, trained, and supervised a sales force that was recognized as having the highest per-capita sales growth in the country; all within 18 months.
In January 2002, Tom unveiled his leadership coaching program. He offers a unique system and philosophy:
“I believe that successful leadership is inspiring others to become better role models. It is in trying to be better that we enjoy living.”
He is the author of the book Winning and Losing It! (A Guide to Student Leadership). The book explores the deadly combination of alcohol and violent behavior in college communities. It offers an alternative leadership methodology to schools that are looking to improve their "zero-tolerance" education programs and encourage healthier living.
